Supported accommodation governance and compliance checklist
A five-pillar operating checklist for providers that want inspection-ready evidence every day.

Compliance is a recurring operating system
Policies describe the standard. Governance proves that important work happened, was reviewed and led to action. Build recurring processes with a named owner, cadence, evidence requirement and escalation path.
Five pillars to review
A balanced framework covers Operations and Safeguarding, Workforce and HR, Property and Infrastructure, Finance and Performance, and Commercial Growth. Weakness in one pillar can destabilise the others.
- Daily safeguarding and shift assurance
- Weekly workforce, incidents and placement health
- Monthly reporting, finance and quality review
- Quarterly audit, strategy and policy oversight
- Ad-hoc response with recorded decisions
Test evidence, not confidence
Sample records across properties and teams. Look for timestamps, named review, action closure and consistency between the policy, frontline record and management dashboard.
Turn findings into control
Every audit finding needs a responsible owner, proportionate deadline, evidence of completion and approval to close. Repeated findings should trigger root-cause review rather than another reminder.
What is a governance process library?+
A structured set of recurring operational controls with owners, frequencies, evidence and escalation across the provider.
Does a compliance dashboard replace audits?+
No. It shows status and evidence; audit still tests whether controls work in practice.
What should leadership review monthly?+
At minimum: safeguarding, placement health, workforce, training, property risk, reporting, finance, complaints, incidents, audit actions and commissioner relationships.
